Redman and Keith Murray have been friends and groupmates for the best part of three decades, but Murray apparently doesn’t always listen to his friend’s advice.

In a recent interview with MReck TV, the Def Squad rapper shared that he wished he would have listened to “I’ll Bee Dat!” MC before he teamed up with Canibus to work on an album together.

“Canibus just made it so difficult at the end of the day,” he said to the outlet on Wednesday (June 19), referring to their In Gods We Trust: Crush Microphones to Dust album which was released in 2011. “I was just like, ‘ugh!’ We had the opportunity to make it, and I was working on an album. So, when you see those tracks that say, ‘Produced by Erick Sermon,’ they were originally going to go to [me], but I gave them up.”

He continued: “But then, the album suffered. It was my brainchild. My baby. But then Canibus — not talking bad about him — but he didn’t follow through with promoting the album properly. And then he was getting into it with the publicist. It was a classic album, but we didn’t do no shows for this. No promotion. I was like, ‘Oh my god.’ And then Redman — that n-gga was like, ‘Be careful,’ and I didn’t know what he was talking about then, damn!”

Despite the tension between the two rappers during the process, the album received rave reviews, with HipHopDX remarking about the “flawless chemistry” between the pair at the time.

“It’s a testament to the often-flawless chemistry between Canibus and Murray that midway through the Planet Asia assisted opener “Rock Wit Us” you momentarily forget that another dynamic duo traded bars over the same Margie Joseph sample two years ago on the Only Built For Cuban Linx sequel,” DX wrote at the time.

Meanwhile, Keith Murray dazzled BET Awards watchers last month when Def Squad – comprised of Murray, Redman, and EPMD co-founder Erick Sermon — took the stage to let fans reminisce about the “Golden Era” of the ’90s in honor of Hip Hop’s 50th anniversary this year.

While the performance was amazing to watch, some fans were confused when Murray took the stage as the Long Island native had previously been spotted in a video online appearing to be under the influence of drugs.

However, Murray’s recent antics haven’t affected his bravado or stage presence, as he rocked his performance of his hit track, “The Most Beautifullest Thing In This World,” which appeared on his 1994 debut album of the same name.
